We have recently expanded our warehouse operation and now occupy 35’000 SQFT conveniently located by Manchester Airport.  As part of the expansion we are looking to bolster our management team and are now looking to appoint a warehouse manager to join our team and develop the warehouse operation. The successful applicant will be a strong leader, with previous experience of managing a team. They will be at home in a fast paced, hands on environment and thrive under the pressures of a busy warehouse.

Duties

  • Line managing a team of warehouse personnel
  • Liaising with our operations manager and forward planning
  • Health and safety within the warehouse
  • Overseeing preparation of equipment and managing quality control
  • Stock Control
  • Managing the loading / unloading of multiple vans and trucks
  • Other duties to meet the needs of the business

Required Skills 

  • Previous experience managing a team
  • Previous experience in the AV, sound and lighting industry an advantage but not essential
  • Excellent leadership and organisation skills
  • IT and communication skills essential
  • Ability to work as part of and lead a team
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to problem solve and to work to deadlines

Working Hours

Due to the nature of our industry we require our employees to have a flexible approach to their working hours. Your minimum contracted hours would 195 per month. Shifts will be scheduled on 5 days out of 7, however extended and additional shifts will be required to meet the needs of the business.

  • 28 days per year
  • After 3 years continuous service you will receive your birthday off (day off can be taken within 7 days of your birthday)

As part of our ongoing expansion plan we have the opportunity for a Head of Set & Stage to join our busy team at an exciting time for the company as we look to significantly develop our Staging and Set department located within its dedicated warehouse. The successful applicant will be creative, customer focused and have varied experience in design and build of bespoke stage sets and scenery in particularly in the corporate events and exhibition industries. They will be an excellent communicator, at home in a fast paced, hands on environment and thrive under pressure.

Key Roles / Responsibilities

  • Leading and developing our staging and set team including line management
  • Production of detailed and accurate CAD construction drawings
  • The ability to construct bespoke staging and set items using a wide variety of materials and techniques
  • Budget management and quotations
  • Hands on leading teams onsite for installations and de rigs at events of various sizes and types, particularly in the corporate and private events sectors across the UK and overseas.
  • Working as part of the wider Sterling team on large productions
  • Dealing with clients, suppliers, venue staff and crew both onsite and prior to the event to help ensure we deliver a flawless event and exceed our client’s expectations.
  • Managing the preparation process of our equipment to ensure the highest standards are met
  • Managing the general servicing / maintenance and repairs of stock equipment within the department
  • Stock management of consumable items
  • Management of the staging and set warehouse and workshop equipment
  • Research and explore new products, finishes and innovative ideas to ensure we are always offering our customers fresh and creative solutions
  • Adhering to company health and safety policies and procedures
  • Other duties to meet the needs of the business
  • Complying with the company’s paperwork process
  • Complying with company health and safety procedures

Required Skills

  • Extensive experience in live event staging and set construction / exhibition stand build industry essential
  • Ability to produce construction drawings using CAD software
  • Good working knowledge of workshop tools and machinery
  • Experience operating a CNC machine an advantage but not essential
  • Excellent communication skills with a strong focus on customer service
  • Previous experience leading a team

Working Hours

If you have the experience we are looking for then you will already know that this isn’t a 9 till 5 job. Due to the nature of our industry we require our employees to have a flexible approach to their working hours. Typically, your working day if not working out onsite would be 08.30 till 17.30 Monday to Friday. Work outside of these hours and at weekends will be required as our workload / projects permit. As part of our continuing development plans which include recent warehouse expansion and substantial investment in both our people and equipment we have the opportunity for a warehouse based vision prep technician. The applicant will be required to have a good understanding of audio and vision systems, to join our team and develop the warehouse operation. The successful applicant will have experience in the AV industry and have a good understanding of live event production either in a similar warehouse role or as a technician. They will be at home in a fast paced, hands on environment and thrive under the pressures of a busy warehouse.

Duties

  • Hands on preparation of equipment (predominantly in the vision department however work in other divisions of the warehouse will also be required) for productions and dry hires to the highest standard
  • Checking in equipment returned from hire
  • Ensuring all equipment is kept clean and well presented
  • Ensuring workspaces are kept in clean and orderly condition
  • General service, maintenance and repair of equipment
  • Locating and ordering new parts to fix broken/damaged equipment
  • Loading / unloading of vans and trucks
  • Occasional deliveries / collections and site work (Full UK driving license required)
  • Maintain high Health & Safety standards and adhere to company policies and procedures 

Required Skills

  • Previous experience in the AV, sound and lighting industry essential
  • IT and communication skills essential
  • Knowledge of LED screen, projection, image processing, switchers and mixer and cameras

As part of our expansion we have the opportunity for a cable preparation technician to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with the wider warehouse team under the leadership of our operations manager delivering first class equipment for hire to the live events industry.

Duties:

  • Prepping/De-prepping cables for events
  • Checking in equipment returned from hire
  • Cable repairs, maintenance and PAT testing
  • Quality and Stock Control within the cable department
  • Loading /Unloading of vans and trucks when required
  • Complying with the company’s paperwork process
  • Maintaining a cleaning, tidy and well organised working environment
  • Complying with company health and safety procedures
  • Occasional deliveries / collections (Full UK driving license an advantage but not essential)
